A police officer at Kira Road police died in the wee hours of Wednesday morning after his makeshift house caught fire. Police Constable Fredrick Ajubaru was inside his temporary house when the fire caught it at around midnight.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Laden Muzahura, the Kira road Office in Charge -OC station, police officers inside Kira road barracks saw fire emanating from PC Ajubara’s house but their efforts to rescue him were futile.
ASPU Muzahura said PC Ajubaru’s neighbours responded to rescue the house and property but the door was locked from the inside. “The neighbours attempted to put off the fire with water while waiting for the fire brigade to respond. People managed to break into the house from behind side but they found the deceased lying on his back already dead to the strength of fire and carbon monoxide,” ASP Muzahura said in the report he shared to his seniors.
Since police cannot rule out suspicion of self-immolation, a case file with reference Vide SD 02/14/12/2022 has been opened to probe the incident beyond doubt. Scene of crime officers accompanied by a homicide team visited the scene.
Constable Ajubaru’s body was taken to Kampala Capital City Authority -KCCA morgue for post-mortem. The homicide team has started tracing the last hours of deceased Constable Ajubaru to know if there could be anything that might have prompted him to set his house ablaze or if it was just an accident. His body was found dressed in black of trouser and a yellow t-shirt.
