The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has arrested Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Joseph Wandera, over the murder of his girlfriend Hope (Suubi) Busingye.
Three days ago, ASP Wandera, informed Jinja Road police station that his girlfriend had drowned in uncovered manhole as they returned from a hangout in Lugogo and around 2am.
Police embarked on searching for the body from the manhole until it was recovered swept by running water through the trench up to Bugolobi which was a distance of more than a kilometer from the actual scene.
Senior Commissioner of Police, Fred Enanga, said after the body had been recovered, it was subjected to a postmortem examination where it was discovered that Busingye was strangled and then dumped into the manhole.
Enanga said police detectives decided to revisit the scene where ASP Wandera claimed his girlfriend had drowned and they saw blood stains. The deceased’s shoes were dumped a few meters from the manhole something that made the detectives suspicious.
Detectives decided to grill ASP Wandera but he has not admitted to the crime. However, homicide investigators have decided to charge ASP Wandera with murder since he’s currently the only reporter, witness and prime suspect.
