The Uganda National Examination Board -UNEB has revealed that 832,810 pupils will be sitting for their Primary Leaving Examinations -PLE on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. UNEB Spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule, said the candidates’ numbers are quite big and they are now preparing invigilators and scouts to ensure that each Primary Seven candidate receives his or her papers on scheduled dates without fail.
Kalule said UNEB has started by briefing over 5,000 monitors who will go back to their respective districts and share the information with colleagues. UNEB often uses over 20,000 scouts and invigilators to ensure exams go on smoothly.
“We have started with the briefing of district monitors. The people who will brief other people at the district level. We have 832,810 and we need about 5,000 scouts to ensure that all candidates get the papers at the same time,” Kalule said.
This year’s numbers show there is an increase of 83,049 candidates who have registered to sit for PLE compared to 749,761 who sat for the exams in 2020. The numbers have been increasing because some parents made their children skip classes after two years of Covid19 lockdown.
Minister for primary education, Joyce Moriku Kaducu, will officially commission PLE on Friday this week. The candidates will be briefed on the dos and don’ts of the PLE on Monday of next week and started on Tuesday of the same week.
