Uganda Loses MP to Covid19

The deceased MP was representing Kamuli Municipality in the 10th parliament

Uganda has lost a Member of Parliament –MP to novel Corona Virus Disease –Covid19. The deceased legislator, Rehema Watongola, succumbed to Covid19 at Mulago Specialized hospital on Saturday morning.

Watongola was representing Kamuli Municipality in the 10th parliament. Her death comes a fortnight after Rtd Col Shaban Bantariza, who was deputy government spokesperson succumbed to the contagious disease at the same hospital.

Last weeks, Dr Yassin Kiyimba, who was Rakai hospital director also succumbed to Covid19. Dr Kiyimba spent two days in Intensive Care Unit at Mulago hospital. Business tycoon and proprietor of MTK and Quality Chemicals renowned companies producing human and animal medicine also succumbed to Covid19 in September.

At least 144 people have succumbed to Covid19 in Uganda since the first case was detected on March 21. The country has so far registered 15,789 Covid19 positive cases of which 8,038 have already recovered.
